License

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0

You may reuse HearthMap tables, CSVs, and maps, including commercially, as long as you credit HearthMap with a link. That is the whole deal.

What this covers

This license applies to HearthMap's compiled pages: the county insurance tables and CSVs, ranking tables, choropleth maps, and the numbers as we publish them. It is CC BY 4.0, not a share-alike license, so newsrooms can reuse the work without putting their own story under the same terms.

What you can do

  • Copy, redistribute, and quote the tables and CSVs.
  • Use the maps and numbers in articles, broadcasts, and reports.
  • Adapt the data into your own charts, including commercially.

Attribution

Name HearthMap and link to the page you used. These forms are enough:

HearthMap, “County-Level Home Insurance Costs, 2014-2024,” https://hearthmap.app/home-insurance-by-county.

Map: Home insurance cost by county, HearthMap (https://hearthmap.app/home-insurance-by-county)

Do not use keyword-stuffed anchor text. A brand name plus a link is the credit we want.

What this does not cover

Underlying source measurements still belong to their publishers. Census, FBI, Zillow, Redfin, FEMA, NOAA, NBER, and the Keys-Mulder escrow file keep their original terms. Credit those sources when you are citing the raw measurement, not only our compilation. The insurance tables are based on Keys and Mulder, NBER Working Paper 32579.
